A nonfiction book designed to highlight foods and recipes used by the First Nations. The book includes information on conservation and respecting nature in the First Nations worldview. There are sections on gathering foods, cultivating crops, hunting animals for meat, catching fish, and preserving foods, etc. Throughout the book, there are recipes using the foods first Nations people ate. They are not, however, necessarily first Nations recipes, for example, "maple popcorn balls." The last page includes a glossary and a simple index.
